Snowy Egret Picture Gallery

About two-foot tall, all white with black bill, black legs and bright yellow feet, the most memorable feature of the Snowy Egret is its beautiful plumes. It is another of the egrets that was hunted to near extinction during the late 1800's and early 1900's. Skilled fishermen, snowy egrets often fish together which produces many territorial squabbles and raucous noises. The egrets often fluff the plumage during this time and strike threatening poses at one another.

The Canon EOS Digital Rebel single lens reflex (dSLR) camera was employed for most of the bird photos below. It was equipped with a  Sigma zoom lens 200-500 mm, sometimes with a 1.4 tele-extender. All photos on the page are downsized and compressed for loading speed. The high resolution 6.3 megapixel images are archived offline.
