Bonita Beach, Florida

Located directly on the Gulf of Mexico, Bonita Beach is south of Fort Myers and north of Naples. The Bonita Beach / Bonita Springs area has become very dynamic and popular with tourists and visitors who are attracted to the area's numerous white, sandy beaches and mild tropical climate. The many canals and back bay areas provide a special thrill for the backwater fishing or boating enthusiast. Visitors will note the many fishing piers and boat ramps that dot the waters and the wide choice of boating, sailing, charters, fishing and water sport opportunities. Tennis, swimming, biking and golf are available to the tourist who enjoys an active lifestyle. A wide choice of area golf courses are available to the visitor creating a golfer's paradise.

While this area is flourishing with growth, visitors will still find an assortment of wildlife refuges and sanctuaries. The Corkscrew Swamp Sanctuary offers many activities for the tourist or visitor including natures tours and a look at some of the area animal and plant life in pristine swamp and shoreline areas. The Sanctuary encompasses 11,000 acres of pristine wetland area east of Bonita Springs and is home to the only white wood stork nesting in the country. Nature lovers will find many other species of birds, turtles, manatee and various wildlife as well as a variety of tropical foliage. Exhibits and tours are available for the curious visitor or tourist.

After visiting Bonita, it is easy to see what originally attracted the early settlers. The white sandy beaches, vast waterfront areas and fantastic sunsets are as beautiful today as they were 200 years ago.
