Pinellas Park, FL

Things to do, Places to go...

Located in Pinellas County, Pinellas Park is one of the many populous smaller cities near Clearwater, St. Petersburg, and Tampa. It is primarily a residential community and the year 2000 population figures reflect that over 45,000 people call Pinellas Park their full time home. While an inland city of Pinellas County, Pinellas Park is within a few miles of some of Florida’s best Gulf beaches. It also accesses Tampa easily across the Howard Franklin Bridge and Gandy Bridge for tourism activities and attractions in one of Florida's largest cities and can be a good home base from which to tour the entire Tampa Bay and Southwest Florida areas.

Pinellas Park prides itself on being a Tree City. Residents and business owners of Pinellas Park are proud of their exquisite landscaping and the Parks Department uses only native plants. Tourists to the area may easily notice the more natural settings in the many city parks, along roadways, public facilities and even the local neighborhoods.

In addition to the standard franchised and locally owned motels, an interesting place to stay in Pinellas Park is the Horse and Buggy Bed and Breakfast Inn. It is located on a 12-acre farm and comes complete with hayrides, carriage rides, and horseback riding. At the Horse and Buggy, guests are only 15 minutes away from the beach.

For the bargain shopper, there is no need to look further than the Wagon Wheel Flea Market right in Pinellas Park. Visitors can select from  3,000 vendors to purchase tens-of-thousands of new and pre-owned items. The Wagon Wheel is open every Saturday and Sunday, regardless of weather, and is fun for the entire family. The Wagon Wheel has been a fixture in Pinellas Park, drawing hoards of visitors from surrounding cities and towns.

The newest attraction in Pinellas Park is the Tampa Bay Automobile Museum. The museum opened its doors in 2005 and features over 40 vintage automobiles from the 1920’s and 1930’s. The museum is closed on Tuesdays, and admissions prices are reasonable. Any automobile enthusiast is sure to have a good time at this exciting new attraction.

The Pinellas Park Art Society, located on Park Boulevard, maintains and provides a free art gallery, two classrooms, and a library. The Art Society also offers classes and workshops and features guest artists on a rotating basis.

If Pinellas Park is on your traveling agenda, keep in mind that you will only be a short drive away from Tampa and St. Petersburg. Pinellas Park is easily accessible by two major airports - Tampa International and St. Petersburg-Clearwater International.
